Background: |
A unique opportunity to participate in teaching, researching, publishing and developing in a newly created four-year Undergraduate degree program in Business and Technology at a leading business and technology university located in Northern NJ. The new program is headed by an Associate Dean, reporting directly to the President of the University. The program Dean was previously CEO of a large manufacturing company and has served on a number of University and public company Boards. The new program enjoys the support and funding of the University President and Board of Trustees who collectively believe it to be a key developmental initiative. The program is designed to prepare a small group, ( 50 students per class), of highly motivated, (top 10 % of HS graduating class/ SATs 1300+), business career oriented students who desire academic preparation combined with practical business instruction. The students will, during the course of study, be able to develop a life long network of key business executives ( who for the most part will be drawn from the respective Advisory Boards) that may well include some of the most important business leaders in the Nation. This outcome will be facilitated through student internships and projects. The curriculum is designed around a four year "Spine". This refers to the "unifying spine" of the curriculum that defines, drives and distinguishes program vision and deliverables. The four year curriculum is organized to provide academic and practical business knowledge so that the student will be able to research, develop, prepare and present an effective business plan, in a field of her or his choice, as a requirement for graduation. The Business Plan "deliverable" will serve as the outline or "spine" to motivate learning in various academic core subjects in a business/ technology curriculum. The idea is to help the students see the importance of the technology and business courses in relation to the totality of a functioning business. The students will be expected to learn their academic subjects in such a way that will promote an interdisciplinary approach in thinking about and resolving business challenges just like what is needed in the real business world. Reporting to the Dean will be a Director-Team Leader "SPINE" and two other Team Leaders ; Information Technology and Science. These three positions will be filled by former senior executives from major or middle market companies who will be expected to help develop the program in their areas of expertise, teach and mentor students as well as recruit and build Advisory Boards for each Team Leader focus area and one for the overall Business & Technology Program. Two assistant professors will be hired to work exclusively on the Business & Technology Program. They will be Ph.D. associate/asst. professors coming into the program from major universities to teach Marketing and Finance/Accounting encompassing the latest e.Business techniques. The Marketing Professor will cover core aspects of marketing from the perspective of the "Business Plan" and help students understand classical marketing subject matter as it so relates. The Finance/ Accounting professor will take a similar approach with the finance curriculum In addition, we would want the new professors to be well versed in Internet related subject matter affecting their particular areas. More specifically, for the marketing professor this will mean understanding e.Commerce related marketing technology software applications related to new Business to Business applications as well as Business to Customer marketing programs. The individuals sought will have 3-5 years teaching experience at a highly competitive university and will want to enter the "tenure track" at the University with all the normal expectations of publishing and research attached -but, without the need to directly raise funds through grant writing and the like. Initially-in the first few years - the teaching load will be relatively light; 2 courses per semester.
