Background:

A unique opportunity to participate in directing and administering a newly created four-year Undergraduate degree program in Business and Technology at a leading business and technology university located in Northern NJ. The new program is headed by an Associate Dean, reporting directly to the President of the University. The program Dean was previously CEO of a large manufacturing company and has served on a number of University and public company Boards. The new program enjoys the support and funding of the University President and Board of Trustees who collectively believe it to be a key developmental initiative. The program is designed to prepare a small group, (50 students per class), of highly motivated, (top 10 % of HS graduating class/ SATs 1300+), business career oriented students who desire academic preparation combined with practical business instruction. The students will, during the course of study, be able to develop a network of key business executives that may include some of the most important business leaders in the Nation.

The Director, TEAM LEADER "SPINE" will be key to the success of this program. In this case, "Spine" refers the "unifying spine" to the curriculum that defines, drives and distinguishes program vision and deliverables. The four year curriculum, which has already be defined, is organized to provide academic and practical business knowledge so that the student will be able to research, develop, prepare and present an effective business plan, in a field of her or his choice, as part of their requirements for graduation. The Business Plan concept will serve as the outline or "spine" to motivate learning in various academic core subjects in a business/ technology curriculum. The idea is to help the students see the importance and relationship of the technology and business courses in relation to the totality of a functioning business. The students will be expected to learn their academic subjects in such a way that will promote an interdisciplinary approach in thinking about and resolving business challenges just like what is needed in the real business world.

There will be two executives hired who will become Team Leaders in respective areas of focus; INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (Information Technology / Telecommunications) and INTEGRATION of SCIENCES ( Research & Development). The team leaders, Dean and Faculty will work as a support team coordinated by the Spine Leader to integrate the overall subject matter. The team leaders will be expected to teach in their focus areas to help the students acquire knowledge that is complimentary to the Program Spine curriculum. In addition the Team Leaders will be expected to help develop program content, mentor students, work closely with to recruit and develop the Advisory Board for their area of focus. The Team Leaders will have previously been executives with P&L responsibility in major corporations (division level or above ) in their areas of expertise.

For the Info Technology Team Leader we are seeking an individual coming from a background working as a Senior Technology Director who will possess deep experience in: enterprise wide software application selection; integration/programming; system operation; and human resource selection, management and development. The I/T Team Leader would have served in the CIO role as a true strategic business partner with the CEO and the Board. The I/T Team Leader would also be experienced with web based "B to B" and "B to C" e.Commerce applications from concept through to live implementation. in a manner consistent with program vision

The Integration of the Sciences Team Leader will have directed and managed Research & Development for a major technology based company. The ideal candidate will have steered the product development all the way from initial conception through to market introduction. Like the I/T Team Leader the Science Team Leader will have experience dealing with the CEO and Board as a strategic partner.

In addition to the Team Leaders, two professors will be hired to work exclusively on the Business & Technology Program. They will be two Ph.D. associate/asst. professors who will be coming into the program from outside universities to teach Marketing and Finance/Accounting encompassing the latest eBusiness techniques. The individuals sought will have 3-5 years teaching experience at a highly competitive university and who will want to enter the "tenure track" at the University with all the normal expectations of publishing and research attached -but, without the need to directly raise funds through grant writing and the like. Initially-in first few years - the teaching load will be relatively light; 2 courses per semester.

Responsibilities:
The Team Leaders will have responsibility for coordinating such key aspects as: program promotion; interaction with the main and specialized Business & Technology Advisory Boards; curriculum development in conjunction with the Program Dean, newly hired academics and other team leaders; monitoring and managing student satisfaction with the Business & Technology Program; teaching and seminar leadership and media relations. Since both Team Leaders will be responsible for spearheading the development of their portions of the B&T program he or she will (ideally) be experienced teaching at the adjunct professor level. In addition, the Team Leaders will have a good deal of input selecting the industry leaders in each respective area- I/T and Science- who will comprise their respective Advisory Boards. The team leaders will need to be experienced and enjoy working with media/PR (print, broadcast, internet) representatives since the Team Leader will be responsible for helping to promote the B&T program to the business, academic and prospective student communities.

Key Competencies/Experience/ Attributes/Style Required:

 

Demonstrated track record of leading a company or division of a major company. Strong understanding of the key disciplines needed to successfully conceive and implement a business plan including sales/ marketing; finance; operational, human resources and administrative competencies. These competencies will have been acquired and developed within a multi year career that clearly demonstrates a path of increasingly more significant job responsibilities and successes as defined by excellent financial performance, innovative product development, high customer satisfaction and contribution to the community. Highly articulate-strong verbal and writing skills. An advanced degree is required. The hired candidate will possess a style and "presence" that will convey experience and leadership, but will be accessible and friendly in his or her attitude as well as quick, energetic and hard working. A genuine desire to "give something back", through teaching and guiding student development is also an important in the character of the individuals who will be asked to become Team Leaders.
