Assignment # 99-012-A
Director-TEAM LEADER "SPINE"
Undergrad Business/Technology University Program
~ Position Filled ~
|
Background: |
A unique opportunity to participate in directing
and administering a newly created four-year Undergraduate degree program
in Business and Technology at a leading business and technology university
located in Northern NJ. The new program is headed by an Associate Dean,
Director of Undergraduate Studies, reporting to the President of the University.
The program Dean was previously CEO of a multinational corporation and has
served on a number of University and public company Boards. The new program
enjoys the support and funding of the University President and Board of
Trustees who collectively believe it to be a key developmental initiative.
The program is designed to prepare a small group, (50 students per class),
of highly motivated, (top 10 % of HS graduating class/ SATs 1300+), career
oriented students who desire both business and technical academic preparation
combined with practical business instruction. The students will, during
the course of study, be encouraged to develop a network of key business
executives that may include some of the Nation's most successful business
leaders. The Director- TEAM LEADER Spine, will be a professorial position that will be key to the overall success of this program. In this case, "Spine" refers the "unifying spine" to the curriculum that defines, drives and distinguishes program vision and deliverables. The four year curriculum, which has already been defined, is organized to provide academic and practical business knowledge so that the student will be able to research, develop, prepare and present an effective business plan, in a field of her or his choice, as a requirement for graduation. The Business Plan concept will serve as the outline or "spine" to motivate learning in various academic core subjects in a business/ technology curriculum. The idea is to help the students see the importance and relationship of the technology and business courses in relation to the totality of a functioning business. The students will be expected to learn their academic subjects in such a way that will promote an interdisciplinary approach in thinking about and resolving business challenges just like what is needed in the real business world. There will be two additional executives hired who will become Team Leaders in their respective areas of focus: INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (e.Business/ Telecommuncations) and INTEGRATION of the SCIENCES (Research & Development). The Team Leaders, Dean and faculty will work as a support team coordinated by the Spine Leader to integrate overall subject matter. The team leaders will be expected to teach in their focus areas to help the students acquire knowledge that is complimentary to the Program Spine curriculum. The Team Leaders will have previously been executives with P&L and or Line Management responsibility in major corporations (division level or above) or CEO/President of middle market companies in technology based industries. In addition to the Director and two Team Leaders, two professors will be hired to work exclusively on the Business & Technology Program. They will be Ph.D. associate/asst. professors who will be coming into the program from outside universities to teach Marketing and Finance/Accounting encompassing the latest e.Business techniques. The academics sought will have 3-5 years teaching experience at a highly competitive university and who will want to enter the "tenure track" at the University with all the normal expectations of publishing and research attached -but, initially, without the need to directly raise funds through grant writing and the like for the Business & Technology. During the first couple of years - the teaching load will be relatively light; 2 courses per semester. This demanding program will have more than 140 credits required for graduation, plus required internships and other factors including developing and presenting a complete business plan. |
