~ Position Filled ~

Opportunity Summary and Background: This is a great opportunity to help lead and define the direction of the Sponsored Research effort at Stevens Institute. Over the past several years a great deal of emphasis has been placed on increasing the importance of the Sponsored Research effort. The 2004 budget is $23MM; the target for 2005 is $30MM. The new Associate Director will have ample opportunity for career growth and development working closely with the Director to organize and schedule the workflow through effective communication with the Deans, Program Directors and professors who are driving the research initiatives of the Institute. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional who wants to make a difference at a growth-oriented university with a strategic emphasis on research.

Key Responsibilities: Provide Institute community with expert guidance / advice concerning completion of grant and contract proposals, accounts status, and government regulations. Support the Director of Institute Technology Initiatives through preparation of monthly reports. Assist principal investigators in preparation /review of proposal budgets. Set up new approved grant and contract accounts, monitor current accounts / prepare journal entries; respond to internal, external & Fed auditor inquiries 

for annual compliance audits with support from Research Staff. Provide administrative liaison/support for research customers, researchers and the Institute. Negotiate contracts and review language with customers and sub-contractors for approval by the Institute. Complete other duties as assigned by the Director of Sponsored Research. He or she will work closely with several staff support associates. 

Experience/Competencies/Education: 3+yrs pre and post-award grant & contract admin in a Higher Ed or Not for Profit environment including: in-depth understanding of OMB Circulars A-21, A-110, A-133, handling intellectual property issues related to grant proposals and contracts, prep of financial reports for grants contracts / necessary accounting entries, interacting with internal, independent and Fed auditors, coordinating sponsored projects computer database. Additional requirements: Bachelors degree in accounting or related field, excellent written and verbal communication skills. Knowledge of Excel, Word, Access or similar programs. Proven ability to easily work effectively with associates at all levels of the Institute.
