The presidential election is heating up and in a few short days we will know the result. Democracy is a wonderful thing. Exercise your right to vote. It cost a lot of people dearly over the centuries to establish this privilege. Support the ideals of the patriots who founded our great Nation by going to the polls and voting.

Are you active in your community or in your State? I have read most of the popular books about our Nation’s founders that have come out in the past few years: Founding Brothers, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, John Paul Jones and now, Alexander Hamilton. There is so much to learn from these brave and brilliant historic figures......but what is most moving for me is the inspiration I get when I think about how courageous they all were in the face of such overwhelming odds. During the Revolutionary War the Loyalists and the British were so powerful. How did the Americans ever win?

It was a long war filled with moments of utter desperation, fear and great sacrifice for so many of the families who wanted a very major change to the way they were being governed. I believe it was their values that made the difference. The Continentals believed in personal freedom and in their ability to successfully govern themselves....and the world is so much better off for their dedication and courage. Think about that the next time you read a scare headline or “Op-Ed” piece that decries America’s loss of direction or that we are no longer considered the true leaders of the free world. Our democracy and the great institutions that nurture it are our rudder.....and we are made stronger by debate and dissent ---not weakened. We are a great Nation because so many of our citizens are truly brave and willing to express themselves. So do your fellow Americans proud; vote and keep contributing to what makes our country so great.
