It is impossible for people to remain unbiased about who is the best at anything; do you agree? Nonetheless, we all gravitate to rankings and often put stock in them; particularly if the group compiling the ranking does a credible job. Today’s LinkedIn list of “best universities” is based upon where their graduates are actually working.
How they compiled the ranking is well explained, here.
At KULPER & COMPANY we believe that a discernible performance pattern is a reliable predictor of future success for a job candidate. Getting under the story found in the candidate’s resume reveals a richer story about the performance pattern, educational background, personal interests and other factors. LinkedIn’s effort is to be applauded for similar reasons; their effort is meant to uncover where graduates of top universities are actually working. Bringing forward a ranking of universities like this is an ‘acid test’ for the university’s claim that they are teaching their students what employers want and need.
This is a refreshing listing just for that reason, alone. We will look forward to further analytic work on their initial effort.
Well done, LinkedIn!
