5/2/14 Unemployment Report …and senior level hiring opportunities

 

 

IMG_1065The news out of Washington DC today relative to the unemployment rate is very positive; 6.3% is the lowest unemployment rate in years and indicative of an increasingly stronger economy.

Our firm conducts senior level search assignments for universities and companies that are focused on research and innovation.   As the economy continues to accelerate we expect our phones to be ringing more frequently from clients who need us to help them attract the right leaders for their organization.

For boards of directors and university trustees this is an important inflection point relative to attracting the best leaders for key roles; the competition for talent will increase significantly as the year progresses.

Survey Results ONLINE Learning Independent Colleges

This survey, compiled by LEARNING HOUSE provides a good overview of the results that are being delivered from online learning initiatives as viewed by VPAA/Chief Academic Officers of independent colleges. Key findings: Nearly all respondents report that revenue is increasing from online offerings//nearly 20% are generating more than $1MM in annual revenue; breadth of courses is broadening/management-business and health related rank at the top; Increasing international enrollments and adding hybrid graduate programs are the top plans for online learning for the next one or two years.

Graduate Engineering AITU Member School Rankings

KULPER & COMPANY is studying online higher education in an effort to better serve our university prospects and clients.  The effort is concentrating on discovering which universities among our client and prospect groups are leading the way and which may have work to do.  As part of this effort we are studying which universities are creating the best outcomes from their online education effort in terms of student enrollment, profitability and other factors.   We are also seeking to identify which VPs, Deans and Directors of online education are the top thought leaders showing the way for others and helping to move university development and growth forward.

Preparation for using an executive search firm

 

We are contacted fairly regularly by prospective clients interested in learning if our firm can be helpful to them in support of their strategic hiring needs.  Sometimes we are called well in advance of the hiring need and other times after a search has started and results are proving to be less than optimal.

At the end of 2012 things were a bit uncertain but at that time we knew that 2013 was looking like it could be a great year for our business and the US economy as a whole. We had a friends luncheon in early January and the talk turned to the outlook for the year ahead. People love to be negative in their outlook—what’s to lose if you are wrong, right? At that luncheon I spoke up and said that I thought the year ahead looked fantastic—one scoffed—one bet me and another ordered pizza.
