The Vice President of Academic Affairs & Dean of the Faculty (SVPAA/DoF) will be a key member of the executive team of Norwich University responsible for leading the long-term development and success of university academic programs.   As the chief academic officer of the university, the SVPAA/DoF is a member of the president's cabinet and works closely with the president, deans, faculty members, alumni, university trustees and fellows to develop, administer, and continually improve every aspect of university academic programs.   As Dean of the Faculty, the hired candidate will be an advocate for the faculty and represent the faculty to the administration. This dual role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced and capable individual seeking further personal career challenge and development.

SVPAA/DoF Key Job Responsibilities
The SVPAA/DoF is a direct report to the president and is responsible for supervising the development, administration and evaluation of all academic curricula and academic support units.  The SVPAA/DoF is expected to provide personal and academic leadership that advances the institution’s goals of academic excellence and an outstanding learning environment for all students.

Required Experience & Attributes:


The SVPAA/DoF will be a seasoned educator and leader with an earned doctorate or terminal degree who is qualified for appointment with tenure at the rank of professor. Superior candidates will have a record of excellence in teaching and scholarship, significant administrative experience commensurate with appointment at the vice presidential level, the ability to provide strong academic leadership and work effectively with faculty and colleagues in a shared governance environment, a strong, demonstrable personal and professional commitment to improving student learning through measurement and use of student outcomes, knowledge of and experience in distance education and online programs, and expertise and skill in the use of current information technology.

·         The new SVPAA/DoF will be an experienced academic administrator who will be able to successfully engage and lead the faculty towards achieving academic and strategic institutional goals in a way that helps to build campus unity and strength.
·         The hired candidate will bean academician who understands how to work together with faculty on changes and innovations, respects the faculty governance system, and can be a voice for the faculty’s needs and concerns
·         He or she will possess a demonstrated track record of progressive success working across various schools and with faculty, students and senior administration.  
·         It will be vital for the SVPAA/DoF to be easily approachable, able to build consensusand, when appropriate, be decisive. He or she needs to be a leader university constituencies will come to trust and respect.
