The Neil R Bonke Professorship of Engineering Management


The professorship in Engineering & Management in the Clarkson School of Business is tenure track with a focus on teaching. The focus of the Bonke Professorship will be on the classroom, but it is expected that the hired candidate will publish in high quality/refereed journals about once a year.

The successful candidate for the Bonke Professorship will have an earned doctorate in one of the following fields, such as: Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering or Systems Engineering. Ideally the hired candidate will already be a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or have the capacity and willingness to become one, in about one year. A background in industry is a plus.

Required Experience & Attributes:
  • Teaching/academic experience
  • Engineering and Operations Management Coursework
  • Ph.D. in engineering or an engineering related field
  • P.E. (or ability and willingness to obtain in about 1 year
  • Tenurable
  • Business experience in specific areas such as systems engineering, operations management, supply chain management.

Preferred Experience & Attributes:

The hired candidate's academic background, will reflect research and teaching experience with a focus on Engineering Management, Operations Management and/or Systems Engineering at both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels in a university setting. In addition, the hired candidate will possess a proven teaching record along with a record of professional service coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Clarkson is located in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, in Potsdam, New York. The community includes St. Lawrence University as well as two campuses of the SUNY System. Clarkson is located on a 600 acre campus within walking distance of town with its quaint shops and array of restaurants. The cities of Ontario and Montreal are within a two hour drive, adding an interesting international aspect to the location as well.

For individuals who relish outdoor activities, Clarkson?s location is a dream come true; hiking, fly fishing, mountain biking, down-hill and cross country skiing are among the most popular activities. There are a number of excellent golf courses nearby, and, of course, there is Lake Placid with all the many amenities and sporting activities that come with being the site of two winter Olympiads. Campus & community based events are rich with variety; world class performing artists regularly come to Potsdam.

The school system is excellent. Many of the children of the area?s higher education institutions attend public schools. As an outcome, their parents are actively involved in assuring the highest level of quality. It is a very safe and inviting area. The people at the university and in the community are very friendly and welcoming.
